Mobile Health Unit

About this Program

SCHC introduced the mobile health van in January 2022 in response to needs within Scarborough, where residents find it challenging to use traditional support options or access specific locations. Pandemic lockdowns and extreme hot and cold weather make it particularly difficult for residents to attend appointments. Economically disadvantaged families find it challenging to make ends meet. Inside, the wheelchair-accessible van is stocked with basic necessities, personal hygiene, harm reduction supplies, medical equipment and PPE. Staff can also bring specialists like mental health counsellors or chiropodists to neighbourhood spots and/or help residents get a family doctor and navigate the health system.
