Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m a 61-year-old Canadian citizen who has lived near Gallaway and Lawrence Ave. for the past 46 years. My strong ties to Canada have shaped my identity, fostering a deep sense of belonging to this diverse and vibrant community.
As a member of the West Hill community, SCHC’s food bank has been a staple in my life for the last seven years. I first discovered the foodbank while visiting the apartment building; I noticed a line and, after further inquiry, learned more about the program.
Part of the reason I have continued to attend is the welcoming and friendly staff, as well as the fresh produce that is given. The support from said service has reduced my overall cost of groceries, allowing me to focus on other expenses.
Since attending the food bank, I have come to feel more confident. The food bank feels like home, and I am grateful for the support that it provides. I have had a significantly positive experience thus far. However, some areas can be worked on, such as providing more items like rice, wheat flour, and occasional meat.
I would also encourage folks to be more patient, especially regarding lateness; it is important to understand that someone might have encountered a problem on their way to the service.
